Sortroom Support
Need help? Email support@sortroom.app — include your macOS version, the Sortroom version (Sortroom ▸ About) and what you were doing. We usually reply within two working days.
Getting started
- Open Sortroom and click Add Folder… (bottom of the sidebar, or File ▸ Add Folder… ⌘O).
- Pick a folder or a whole drive. Your photos appear straight away — nothing is imported or copied.
- Sortroom reads dates and places in the background. On-device analysis (categories) starts only if you say yes.
Common questions
Does Sortroom copy or change my photos?
No. It reads them where they are. It only renames or moves files after you approve a plan, never re-saves the image,
and never deletes anything. Every change can be undone from History.
Where are my labels saved?
In a hidden .sortroom folder on the drive or folder you added, so they travel with the drive, and on your Mac.
I unplugged my drive — are my labels gone?
No. The drive shows under “Not connected”; plug it in again and everything comes back.
How do I mark photos quickly?
Select photos and press P (post-worthy), E (waiting for edit → edited) or ⌘L (log a post). ⌘-click and
⇧-click select several; drag on an empty spot to draw a selection box.
Does it work with videos and RAW files?
Yes — .mov, .mp4, .m4v and RAW files from most cameras (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF, ORF, DNG, RW2). Live Photos show
as one item. See them by type under Media Types in the sidebar.
I don’t post photos online — can I hide the posting tools?
Yes: Settings ▸ General ▸ Posting & planning. Nothing is deleted; turn it on again any time.
What does the Claude integration see?
Only what you allow — see the Privacy Policy. Private folders are never visible to Claude.
How do I move my labels to another Mac?
Turn on iCloud sync in Settings ▸ Sync on both Macs, or simply plug the drive into the other Mac.
Report a problem
Email support@sortroom.app. If Sortroom crashed, macOS may offer to send a report to Apple — that helps us too.
